One night, while at an athletic competition, Max Gordon comes across a girl being chased to her death by a group of bikers. Shortly after, during his free skiing time, he and a man dressed as a monk are chased down. Max survive, thanks to the monk. As the monk is dying, he mutters some words in another language Max doesn’t understand. He figures out two phrases, “Trust no one” and “Lucifer.” Before he can figure out their meaning, he finds himself accused of killing the monk, over his head not only in a murder mystery, and teaming up with the girl he saved to try and figure out the clues that lead to a cataclysmic ecological event prophecy that a secret group of evil people want to make happen. Can Max save the world, stop the bad guys, and clear his name?
A well-paced, intriguing mystery and adventure. The characters are well-developed. The plot is intense and does a great job of holding the mood of the book. Fans of Alex Rider will see a lot of similarities in this story. Readers who like mystery, adventure, action, and world-saving plots will enjoy reading this book. EL (4-6), MS. ADVISABLE.
