Not to long ago there were kids who thought it was funny to ring doorbells and run.
I was not amused when they did it to me.
For one, the kids (they were two boys) looked small. As in under five. Why were kids that tiny out on their own? Two, I was in the middle of writing. I did not appreciate being disturbed. I saw the kids run away and I stepped outside and shouted at them as they ran, "KNOCK IT OFF!"
Yes, I am the neighborhood crank. I will yell at other people's children. Especially if there isn't a parent around.
I ranted about the fact that there were unsupervised kids on the local group on Facebook hoping that the parents would step forward and explain themselves. Maybe I should have grabbed the kids and made them take me to their house but quite frankly, I wasn't in the mood to chase irritating children.
The parents never came forward, surprise surprise, but some people in the group were all, "Oh that's just some silly fun, at least it wasn't worse!"
So because it was "silly fun" I was supposed to sit back and laugh? What?
Yes, I'm glad the kids weren't defacing our property or urinating in our garden, but they still shouldn't be allowed to ring doorbells and run off. I wasn't the only house they hit either.
On base, kids under seven aren't supposed to be out unsupervised anyway yet you see tiny children racing around all over the place. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS?!
Luckily our house hasn't been bothered again. Maybe I frightened the kids by running out with disheveled hair and a stained t-shirt.
But seriously. Parents! Check on your kids!
