So what did you all think about the presidential debates on Monday?
Fun, huh?
Whenever debates are on, I’m always ready for all the Facebook posts. And Tweets. Some people keep it light. But others are all, “Whoever votes for *insert Obama or Romney here* are idiots!”
That’s uncalled for.
If you follow me on Facebook, you know that I’m leaning towards Romney. Yes, he’s said some stupid things. But I feel he’ll be better for the military. Lots of people feel that I’m wrong to think this. That’s fine, but I disagree. Some people don’t like when you disagree and will keep ranting as if they think you’ll suddenly go, “You know what? You’re right!”
I won’t do that.
I have my views and I’m sticking to them.
I would never say someone was stupid for voting for Obama. It’s THEIR choice.
I’ve heard of friendships being ruined because of this election. I’m like ?? I’d never stop being friends with someone for their political choices.
Thankfully, the election is almost here.
Until then, the “hide” feature on Facebook will be coming in handy.

Hodge Podge - Vol 99
"Politicians could take a lesson from us Hodgepodgers. We don't all agree, but we do keep it friendly." Here are my answers for this week:
1. So, do you like beer? Nope, Not now or ever. I think it smells and tastes gross. Back in the day when all my 18 year old friends(that was the legal age then) were drinking beer I was drinking Cuba Libre(Rum and Coke) or Boone's Farm Strawberry Wine(I detest that also). BTW...I never drank until I was of legal age.
2. What's your least favorite repetitive task? I have to agree with Joyce on this one. I despise emptying the dishwasher. There's only two of us here most of the time so why is it always full?
3. When was the last time you rode in a bus? Where was it headed?
I think it was New England on Martha's Vineyard on the 2011 SMAK trip. Bus transportation was better than walking. It was quite a learning experience and we rode it all over the island and it was a great way to see the place. When we got to Nantucket....we decided we had had enough of the bus and rented a car to explore the island. OOPS....KLAMS trip to Niagara Falls 2012....we took the Big Red Bus siteseeing tour to see Toronto. We decided to ride up top so we could see everything clearly. Loved it. If you EVER visit somewhere for a first time....it is a great idea to take the siteseeing bus, the trolley...etc....see everything there is to see...and then pick and choose what you want to go back and do again. I have see some great things that way. In Los Angeles one year I was a single mom and so broke...and at a conference and everyone was going on this 90.00 siteseeing trip I could not afford. I talked to the concierge at the hotel and he gave me the public bus routes and gave me a quick lesson in transfers and where everything was. I saw more for less. MY whole experience only cost me 3.75 and I came back with wonderful stories that the ones on the 90.00 half day bus did not have.
4. What song from your childhood or from your own children's childhood could make a parent's nerves stand on end? Again I have to agree with Joyce, I despise Barney and his nasally voice singing."I love you, you love me, we're a happy family..." It sends chills up my spine to hear that song.....even today and my daughter is 32!
5. The US Presidential election cycle is drawing to a close (can I get an AMEN??), and the third and final debate was held last night....what was the last thing you 'debated about'? Should I clean the house....or read the new Amish book I just got....Amish book won. I know....I should be ashamed of myself....but I am not.
6. Can a person make too much money? How much is too much? No...Can I person spend too much money? Yes. Can a person earn so much they waste a lot of money? Definitely.Can a person who makes 'too much money' also do a lot of good in this world? Yes. Do they? Not always. It is usually the ones who don't that do the most for those without. At least it does to me.
7. Pop-soda-coke-something else...what's it called where you live? Where I grew up it was a soda. ...if I say I want a coke I mean I want an honest to goodness name brand COKE, not a Pepsi or just any old soft drink. I hate when I order a Coke in a restaurant and they bring me Pepsi. That is NOT what I asked for. Where I live now....when they say COKE...they mean anything brown and carbonated.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Frank and I went to see "Pitch Perfect" Friday night. It is a movie about acapella groups. Do you like acapella music? A Quilt for Jenna
About The Author: Patrick E. Craig - After 26 years as a pastor, worship leader, and seminar speaker, Patrick E. Craig is now focusing on writing both fiction and non-fiction books. My Thoughts On The Book: Having read many Amish life books by women I was a bit skeptical about reading one written by a man. I did not feel that a man could do this topic justice. I was dead wrong. Patrick Craig is a master at creating "real-life" people. He took a place that really existed, used a storm that really happened, used names that were real and created the amazing story of Jerusha and her quilt. I could not put the book down and was sad to see it come to an end. The characters felt like friends and I found myself cheering for them throughout the story. This is a wonderful book. It will be out in January, 2013 and I hope you rush out and get a copy for yourself. You will be sorry if you don't.

John Trumbull 1756–1843, American painter, was the son of Gov. Jonathan Trumbull of Connecticut. He served in the Continental Army early in the Revolution as an aide to Washington. He resigned his commission in 1777, to devote himself to painting. In 1780, he went to London to study under Benjamin West. There he was imprisoned on suspicion of treason and finally deported. In 1784, he returned to London, where, at the suggestion of West and with the encouragement of Thomas Jefferson, he began his paintings of national history. Trumbull excelled in small-scale painting, especially of oil miniatures, the best of which were done in the United States between 1789 & 1793. In the latter year, he returned to London as secretary to John Jay & remained for 10 years as one of the commissioners to carry out provisions of the Jay Treaty. He returned to the United States in 1804, where he painted portraits, panoramas, and landscapes, & designed the meetinghouse in Lebanon, Conn. In London from 1808 to 1816, he tried unsuccessfully to establish himself as a portraitist. Returning to New York in 1816, he secured a commission from Congress to decorate the Capitol rotunda. In 1831, he founded the Trumbull Gallery at Yale, one of the earliest art museums in the English-speaking colonies, depositing much of his work there in exchange for an annuity.

To not be a purse girl but really like the Birkin bags. Unfortunately they are super expensive so I doubt I’ll ever have one.
To appreciate all the nice comments I got from the people who read my book. (You can purchase it here.)
To not be having a new entry for tomorrow since my MIL is visiting. She leaves Saturday so I want to be sure and spend time with her.
To be introducing my MIL to pumpkin spice frappucinos from Starbucks on Thursday. She’s never had one!
To just want to elections to be over. Seriously, it’s great that people are passionate about things, but some take it too far. Not everyone has to think like you do.
To be ready for Halloween. I already have all the candy in the bowl ready to pass out to kids. And okay, to snack on. Occasionally. Okay, every day, but I have lots of bags of candy. And not that cheap crap either. The good kind.
To know I’ll be cold on Friday. Our temperatures are supposed to dip to the 40s. Lately it’s been in the 70s and 80s.
To hate carving pumpkins. We do it for the kids. But really, ugh, it sucks.

Love Comes To Paradise

My Thoughts On The Book: This book was a different portrayal of Amish life for me. I have read many books yet never seen it told quite this way. When I met the character of Elam Detweiler after he left the ultraconservative district of Harmony, Maine, and moved to Paradise, Missouri I knew I would not and did not like him. Nora King, a sad little waif followed him soon after and I could not understand the draw at first. she can herself to Elam in comes Lewis Miller, wishing to court Nora. Which way will she lean?. As the story unfolds it all makes perfect sense. This is a great book.

He Did The Math
So remember awhile back when I wrote how Tommy got a C in math on his progress report card? He was so upset about it. The rest of his grades were As and Bs and all he wanted was to be on the Honor Roll. I reminded him that he had time to pull up the C. It seemed he was trying harder in math. And if he’s anything like me, he has to study HARD when it comes to math. I don’t get it. At all. I barely remember long division.
“It’s too bad I don’t have the Aspergers kind where I’m good at math,” Tommy sighed. He reads a lot of articles about Aspergers. He likes to read about how grown ups cope with it. He reads several stories about math geniuses and will go, “Why can’t I be a math genius?”
Anyway, he started to get better grades on math papers. None of them perfect, mind you, but I don’t expect perfection. Especially in math. But he’d bring home a lot of Bs and I’d tell him to keep it up and to ask for help if he needed it.
Well, last week I knew they’d be getting report cards. Tommy was worried about it that morning.
“What if I still have a C?” he asked.
“Then you’ll try again next semester,” I answered.
I was in the kitchen cleaning after school. Suddenly I heard a bang from the front door and Tommy shouted, “I DID IT!”
Honestly, it scared the mess out of me. Who? What? DID SOMEONE JUST BREAK INTO MY HOUSE?
But nope, it was my son holding up his report card. “I did it! I pulled up my C! I got As and Bs! I’m on the honor roll!”
“Woohoo!” I shouted, grabbing the paper. There it was. A B in math.
“It was hard,” Tommy said seriously. “Math is hard.”
“Math is hard. But you did it. I’m so proud of you.”
Tommy grinned. “I’m proud of me too!”
