Ahh, date night.
It doesn’t happen often but when it does, Tom and I like having a great time.

Crack Dip
Crack Dip
Ingredients:
1 box of Funfetti cake mix
1 large sized(the biggest-I think it is 16 oz) cool whip
If you can’t find the funfetti cake mix use white cake mix and sprinkles.
Directions: Fold the dry cake mix into the cool whip and chill. Serve with graham crackers, teddy graham cookies, ginger snaps, vanilla wafers ,or a sweet cracker. It is addictive.

It's A Scary Place
“Don’t go far, Natalie. I don’t want you to get lost in here.” I cringed as I saw someone scratching their butt and then touching some tomatoes.
I quickly stepped back to avoid being hit with a cart that belonged to someone sporting My Little Pony pajama bottoms.
I tried not to stare openly at the woman in the corner who seemed to be hacking up a lung. She had on pajama bottoms with hearts all over them.
“Apparently it’s too difficult to put on a pair of pants,” I muttered. Look, I try not to be judgmental, but I will never understand it when people go out in pajamas. It takes like five seconds to pull on pants, does it not?
“Your little girl is beautiful,” a voice from behind the bread display said. The owner was an elderly man who was missing most of his teeth.
“Thank you,” I answered. He seemed sweet…until he licked his lips and then I immediately thought of the creepy old man in Family Guy who always wants to see Chris’s underpants.
It was like I was in another world. A world where no one felt like putting on real pants, a world where it seemed like a person was going to keel over, a world where…what the hell was that lady doing? Oh. Kicking off her flip flops so she could walk around barefoot? Why?
In case you haven’t figured it out, I was in WalMart.
I don’t go to WalMart often because quite honestly, the people scare me. I mean, there’s an entire site dedicated to the strange folk that frequent the store. PeopleofWalmart.com.
I prefer Target. But Target doesn’t always have what I need so I have to work up the courage and head to WalMart.
I managed to grab what I needed, pay for it, and hurried towards the exit with my purchases—only to nearly be run over by someone walking in.
“Uh, this is the exit. Says so in big white letters above the door,” I couldn’t help but say. I mean, really. People do that all the time at WalMart. If they aren’t walking in the exit, they are trying to exit from the entrance.
“Huh?” the lady who almost crashed into me answered. She was busy poking at her cell phone.
“Never mind,” I sighed and hurried to the car.
I imagine I’ll be back again soon. WalMart usually has good deals on school supplies.
I’m guessing now that I’ll see at least 3 people in pajama bottoms.
As well as people blocking the aisles with their carts so no one can pass.
But, to be fair, that seems to happen in every store that I go to.

Five Minute Friday: Enough

I stare in my cabinets and see multiple glasses that who uses? It is just Frank and I here in this house. I have green glasses and Goldinger "Dublin" glasses in the dining room, I have some kind of Walmart glasses in the kitchen mixed in with some strange collection of weird glasses.....no pair of any and a few couples of some. When is there ever enough glasses.
We are in Nashville, Music City, Nashvegas, .....and I live in Rock Mills, AL. The traffic here is horrendous. If I lived in this town or anytown this size I would know every single back road. I hate interstates (unless I am trying to get somewhere) and crazy drivers. I like scenic rides and beauty. We came across the Cumberland Gap on our way here and even though it was I -24 the view was breathtaking. My favorite ride is through the Appalachians....anywhere along the way.
It is early morning here in Nashville. The clock is ticking as my fingers fly across this keyboard. I only have five minutes and my time is nearly up. I thought writing for five minutes would be easy.....but my mind seemed to shut down. I listened to the thunder, watched a light rain fall, listened to Melissa get ready for work, dreaded packing up to head home, answered Melissa's questions about the missing blue jeans she bought yesterday.....and discovered....I had written enough.

The Black Pearl
We have been in Nashville since yesterday visiting with my baby cousin, Melissa and her precious husband, Clay. We came into town while they were at work....and hit the Cokesbury store and a men's consignment shop called Flips. Let me tell you....if you are a consignment shopper...then Flips is not for you. The prices were sky high! We went to Melissa's and hung out til they got home and then Clay wove his culinary magic on the grill with some amazing pork chops, fresh asparagus, and grilled onions. We ate dinner and it was absolutely fabulous. Let me tell you if you are ever in Nashville and can get Clay to cook for you....go for it. He is a master. Today Melissa took the day off and we got up and decided to mess around. We went to Providence and went shopping at Belks. Melissa needed some new tops and pants. After a successful trip to Belks....we ate lunch at 5 Guys Burger and Fries and then headed to Opry Mills to go to the Bass Pro Shop and Rack Room shoes. We walked all over the Opry Mills mall and Melissa lucked out again at the Bass Pro shop. She definitely had a great day. We headed over back over Briley Parkway to the house. It was 96 degrees outside and felt like it was 101. When we got back to the house Frank and I decided to run down to Kroger and check out the stuff they have that we don't. We bought a few items and when we returned to the house Clay was at home. Supper tonight was going to be at the Black Pearl. We got ready and were there when it opened at five.
The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was great.
You can eat inside or out and enjoy the beauty of the sunset and the marina. We opted for eating inside because it was miserable outside. I personally loved the decor. The food was good and the service was wonderful. If you are ever in Nashville you need to google The Black Pearl and try it out. They are on facebook so if you want to see what the special for the day or what band is playing on the weekend you can. After supper we took the long way home, settled into the living room and played Words With Friends against each other. I have a crazy family and I love spending time with them. We are heading back to Alabama tomorrow so we can get some unfinished jobs finished up. I love my life....I love my family....I love traveling. It does not get any better than this! Happy Thursday!
Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Surprise Visitors
It never fails.
The house is sparkling clean. No one shows up.
The house looks like a tornado has gone through it?
Suddenly everyone wants to drop by.
I’m not one of those people who have the house immaculate all the time. I try. But I also have kids who sometimes feel like the contents of their rooms belong downstairs.
Or I’ll give them a snack and crumbs wind up all over the place as though they’re making a special trail out of Cheerios.
This is usually when we have company.
Why can’t they come when I’ve just cleaned? Why? I always want to say, “We don’t live like this, I swear. Well, I mean, we DO live like this but I clean better. It’s just, sometimes I like to wait until the kids are in bed because if I clean when they are awake, there’s NO POINT.”
My house is clean as I type this.
Want to know who is going to drop by?
No one.
Give it an hour and Natalie will have all her dress up clothes strewn over the floor because she “can’t decide what Princess she wants to be today.”
And then, suddenly, it’ll be a reunion.

Wednesday Hodge Podge Vol 85
Welcome to the weekly Wednesday Hodgepodge...answer the questions on your own blog then add your link to the bottom of Joyce's post if you want to play along. The more the merrier!
1. The summer Olympics begin next week and London is playing host. If you had the chance to go in person what (non-Olympic) London site would you most like to visit? After I go through the Hard Rock Vault. I too will be over by Covent Garden and browsing through all the lovely shops there. The British accent is delightful and I will be eating scones and drinking tea and wishing you all could be there with me.
4. July 18th is National Get Out of the Doghouse Day...when was the last time you were 'in the doghouse? I don't know when I have been there. Frank styas in the doghouse....but it is his man cave and he is out there scrolling something to sell or give away. We don't get in trouble with each other much.
5. What television commercial do you find particularly irritating or inappropriate? You may not answer with 'all of them'. I know some of you were thinking about it. I don't care for the viagra and feminine products commercials and I agree with Joyce about the Vlasic pickle at the funeral one too. I am not a huge commercial fan.
7. What's the best part of your average day? My best part is early morning. I do my blogging, do my bible study, and just enjoy the quiet of the morning before all the hectic stuff begins.
2. What is something in your life right now that feels like an Olympic event? Getting my mom 's house cleared out and getting it sold. The amount of stuff in it is staggering. If they had an Olympic event for it....it would the Hoarder climb. It would be similar to scaling Mt. Everest. Sigh! (BTW to escape high taxes Joyce retire to Alabama....we pay little to nothing....and then don't understand why we don't have money.)
3. What's your favorite supper to prepare and serve when it's too hot to cook?
I agree with Joyce. Chicken salad would have to be my answer as well. I especially like to do this if we have leftover grilled chicken. I love to make it and hollow out a good home grown tomatoe and stuff it with the salad. Yummo. My chicken salad has pineapple tidbits, pecans, green grapes sliced in half, chopped eggs, chopped celery, and enough mayo to hold it all together. I make this during the school year and take it to my lunch bunch. It is great served on crackers.

8. Insert your own random thought here. I have been watching the cost of gas for the last several years and remembered gas wars that used to occur during my early driving days. I remember when gas was 50 cents a gallon and my dad thought that was highway robbery. So here is the lowdown of prices for 1954....the year I was born. Do you know what yours is?

Have a wonderful Wednesday. Frank and I are heading to Nashville for a few days. It is a last minute get away before school starts back and we are going to see my cousin Melissa and her sweet husband Clay. We have not been up in a while so I am really looking forward to it.
