P is for Philadelphia, PA

P is for Philadelphia, PA
My adventures today continue with one of my favorites, Philadelphia.  Several years ago during the week of July 4th I attended a national conference there.  I think my most memorable moment was getting to hear James Earl Ray read the Magna Carta in front of Constitution Hall.  I was mesmerized.  Have you ever paid attention to that man's voice?  It is the kind of voice you could sit and listen to for hours.  It is such a rich and animated voice and I loved every minute sitting on the lawn listening to him.  We got there a couple of days ahead of time so we could sightsee.  We rented a car at the airport and drove around town and saw the Rocky Statue,

The city was preparing for Patti LaBelle to sing on the fourth and traffic was crazy in the downtown area.  We drove around some more and found the Love statue.  It was the only thing Kat had asked me to locate.  We took in Atlantic City during our stay in Philly.  It is just a short distance from where we were staying in Cherry Hill, NJ.  Misty and I enjoyed some shopping and food sampling on the Boardwalk.  The rest of the group hit a couple of the casinos.  We ate supper one night in Cherry Hill at a diner that had been featured on Diner's, Drive-In's, and Dives.  The food was great and they do trivia during the meal.  If your table wins then supper is on them.  The next night after the Mayor of Philadelphia and Governor of Pennsylvania had spoken to us we ate supper at Geno's.  We had a philly cheesesteak wit Whiz and onions.  It was delicious!  A true heart attack in a bun....but mouthwatering.  There is a huge rivalry between Geno's and the place across the street.  The mayor said Geno's and the Governor said the other one....talk about diplomatic.
We toured all of the goverment and historical places.  We saw money being made, heard James Earl Ray at the Constitution Hall, and of course....we saw the Liberty Bell.  I loved Philadelphia and it is really easy for me to recommend it to anyone who loves historical places.
One night while we were there they showed the Philadelphia Story on an outside screen.  There was so much to do....and so little time.  If you have never been to Philly then you have to go.  Be sure to sample the food wares in the downtown Market.  I promise you it is an ethnic heaven.  Philadelphia was a great adventure and one of my early on bucket list additions.  Philadelphia was truly the city of Brotherly Love.
