M is for Michigan

M is for Michigan

My adventure today finds me in Michigan.  In 2010 I took a girl trip with Kat, Mary, and Mandy.  We had all chosen things we wanted to do in Michigan.....all of us chosing Mackinaw Isand.  We ate a fabulous meal at Rosie's Diner (featured on Diner's, Drive In's and Dives),
We spent time in Traverse City eating some lip-stainingly wonderful cherries, we went to the Cherry Republic, shopped, did some sight-seeing, enjoyed the beauty of Bear Claw Dunes.
I never knew that Michigan was so diverse.  Enroute to our next stop we found an enormouse daylily farm in the middle of nowhere and spent a couple of hours perusing the flowers.  Mackinaw City, Mackinaw Island, Sault Ste. Marie were all glorious....the weather was perfect, we learned new Michigan expressions (yupper, fudgie) experienced perfect weather.  I will give you a heads up.  If you ever go to Mackinac Island or Mackinaw City....be sure to take some time and sample their fudge.  I am telling you it is the best I have ever had!  BTW...that is what the word fudgies means....it is foreigners (people not from Michigan) who come to sample.  Yep...We were definitely fudgies.  You also might want to try and pasty.

From Mackinaw we ended up in Frankenmuth....home of Bonner's gigundus Christmas store.  My friend Mary loves Christmas.....and we spent 7 hours there in a two day span.  Kat, Mandy, and I finished our shopping in about 2 hours or less and stood around until customers thought we worked there and began asking us where items were....what was so scary was that WE KNEW!  The best part of Bronners to me was the chapel replica where Silent Night was first performed.  A cheese Haus, a chicken dinner at Zehnder's, a brewery and we were headed to Ann Arbor to see the new Michigan stadium and eat at another Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives place.....the stadium was awesome.  The restaurant did not happen because there was a festival going on and you could not even get downtown. The trip back was spent with a brief stop in Ohio and Kentucky at Monmouth Caves, and home.  Michigan was as they say.  Pure!  I hope to return there soon.  I still have not seen the Maritime Museum of the Edmond Fitzgerald and Frank has to see Frankenmuth....and Mackinaw.....and Traverse City.  Yep, M is for Michigan and definitely worth a second trip!  Have a great weekend!
